On April 2nd, 1993, Weldon J. Inmon and Ralph McCollum sent out letters
to several people who were interested in promoting the French Bulldog breed
by creating a club.
On May 15th, 1993, an informal meeting was held at
Weldon and Lucille Inmon’s house. The following people were in attendance:
Grandol & Donna Forehand, Glenn & Willa Byrd, Robin and Bonnie Stansell, Stormy
Holleman, Amy Dietrich, Olivia Salters, Foster Hanson, June
& Al Hendrix, Ralph & Barbara McCollum, Pug Pagliara, Lucille &
Weldon Inmon, Gwen, Michael & Michelle Inmon, Laura & Paul Schweyman.
From this initial meeting, several people became members and a club was
formed.
The club adopted its name, the French Bulldog Club of Dallas / Fort
Worth on Sept. 25th, 1993. The club logo, designed by June
Hendrix, was adopted on May 27th, 1994.
Since its inception, the club has lost many of its charter members including the
founders Weldon J. Inmon and Ralph McCollum.
After Weldon's
death, his wife, Lucille Inmon, dedicated much of her time and effort to
assist the club in achieving its license from the American Kennel Club.
After several years and many challenges, the club achieved its license
status in April 2000.
On March 23, 2001, the French Bulldog Club of Dallas/Fort Worth held its
first AKC licensed Specialty at a park in Richland Hills, Texas, in a
cramped recreation center.
Suffice it to say,
'we've come a
long way baby'. By fall 2004, our fledgling club had the pleasure of
hosting the French Bulldog Club of America's National Specialty show at a
grand hotel in Arlington, Texas. The week long event was a SMASHING
SUCCESS from start to finish and is still remembered and talked about by
French Bulldog fanciers to this day.
For the club's Show Committee, that
amazing event was the turning point that inspired a desire to host the most
incredible specialty events imaginable.
Our club's specialty shows have
been organized by that very same Show Chairman since 2004, and our club's
annual Specialty events are trademark in that they are designed for the
sheer enjoyment and ultimate pleasure of this club's exhibitors, judges, spectators,
members, and each of their French Bulldogs.
Each year, the club sets new goals,
strives to improve, and its committees work tirelessly for the enjoyment and
benefit of others.
And that is how our club continues to
evolve, succeed and prosper.
We hope that each of you
will join us at a future FBCDFWI event and become a part of our history.
